Starting my blog

It’s that time of year where we think about our goals for the year and get all excited about a ‘new start’. I personally believe that every day can be a new start if you are ready and motivate yourself for a new start. But the New Year is still a great time, especially when you stick to what you want to achieve and it makes you feel good. It’s the perfect time for reflection on the last year, too.

I took two weeks off after a rather busy year to spend some quality time with my family over the Christmas and New Year period. As planned, I’ve been gathering together all of the background planning I’ve done to get my blog started. That probably sounds crazy but it takes a lot of reading and getting creative to get your head around what your journey is about, while living it at the same time. I’ve taught myself over the last few years to set realistic goals, to take one step at a time – that’s not to say that I’m perfect at doing that but it helps me to focus on my career and finding the time for myself and the people who are most important to me. So this is the right time for me to take the next step with starting my blog.

It feels like a whole new adventure. Let’s see where it takes me. Primarily I hope that my blog becomes a useful source for women who are still going through the Endometriosis battle, both for information and enjoying amazing food. Endometriosis affects as many as 1 in 10 women, which is a lot. I also have three friends with the condition. Thankfully a lot can be done in terms of diet and lifestyle, and there is ever-growing awareness. I’ve been free of Endometriosis for five years now and would love to hear of more women healing, too. For me, delicious and nutritious food has been a means of distraction and healing. I love to eat food that makes me feel good and this is the message that I hope will become clear in my blog…

Some topics I’d like to blog about, other than food ideas specifically, include managing a chronic condition while studying and working, working with a nutritionist, eating well while travelling, and how I made the switch to a whole foods diet and lifestyle. I’m sure I’ll include something about skiing too 😉 It certainly wasn’t an overnight change for my diet and I’m glad that I didn’t do it that way because it meant that I could really find out how and why I needed to adapt my diet. This has ultimately made my food journey sustainable. Now with Hashimoto’s finally diagnosed, I have been learning even more and have the power to help myself further.

So my blog will essentially be a lifestyle blog with good food at the heart of it. Now I’ve got the serious stuff out the way, I best get to work on this blog and my new Instagram account…
